Friends of the Stern Center

Elizabeth WallmanThe Friends of the Stern Center is a volunteer group dedicated to promoting knowledge about learning differences and to raising scholarship funds for Stern Center students.

The Friends have raised awareness and funds through a variety of enterprises such as raffles for a handmade doll house and a handcrafted mink teddy bear, the Annual Card Party, a Teddy Bear and Doll Tea Party, and staffing at the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory.  The Friends also assist Stern Center staff by preparing materials and volunteering at events such as professional learning workshops and conferences.

Founded in 1983 by Elizabeth Wallman (photo at left) and Christina Mills, the Friends are enthusiastic supporters of literacy.  Members come from a variety of backgrounds, including parents of former and current students, teachers, Stern Center employees and former employees, authors, and supporters of literacy.
