Explicit Approaches to Writing Across the Curriculum

This five-day course will present research-based, time-tested strategies for effective writing instruction that builds comprehension across the curriculum demonstrating how reading comprehension and written expression relate to and reinforce each other. Strategies that will be modeled and practiced address vocabulary development, grammar and syntax, and writing at the sentence, passage, and essay levels. This course concludes with an opportunity for participants to use these instructional programs to develop lessons using texts for use in classrooms. Participants are asked to bring reading materials from their own instructional settings to use during classes.
