Welcome to the Stern Center
for Language and Learning

The non-profit Stern Center for Language and Learning is dedicated to learning for all as we recognize that all great minds don't think alike.  We are committed to helping individuals identify their learning strengths and needs as well as to finding solutions that allow everyone to learn.

We evaluate and teach more than 900 children and adults each year including those with learning disabilities, dyslexia, language disorders, autism, attention deficit disorders, and learning style differences.

We design and deliver programs for more than 1,500 educators each year.  Research-based information about early literacy oral language, reading, written language, social thinking®, executive functioning, and math is presented through workshops, undergraduate and graduate courses available both live and online, and symposia. Many of our courses may be applied toward additional licensure endorsements in Vermont.

We conduct research on best practices for students and educators to help all kinds of learners succeed.

The Cynthia K. Hoehl Institute for Excellence, established in 2007, reduces fees for instruction for eligible families and awards grants to help underwrite professional learning opportunities. The generosity of the Hoehl Family Foundation’s lead gift to our building campaign has made it possible for us to combine our Williston programs into a single building, reduce operating expenses and improve service.
