Developing Reading Efficiency is designed for all educators who work with dysfluent readers. The course discusses current research on the relationship between fluent reading and comprehension.

Participants learn strategies and instructional methods to help students improve their reading rate, accuracy, and comprehension within words, phrases, sentences and whole texts. Participants will gain a working knowledge of:

  • research supporting fluency instruction
  • definitions of automaticity and fluency
  • interactions between decoding knowledge and reading efficiency
  • how to develop individualized fluency training programs and progress monitoring tools
    oral reading strategies for building fluency and comprehension
