The Stern Center's Enrichment Center for Communication, Social Thinking and Early Literacy in Williston, Vermont is now offering mentorship opportunities for professionals interested in developing social thinking groups.
Program Requirements:
Mentorship meetings will include:
- Group discussion focusing on observations
- Question and answer period
- Individual goal setting with participants
- Social Thinking Group observations
Participants will:
- Increase understanding of the comprehensive specific challenges associated with social thinking weaknesses
- Learn explicit programming strategies designed to augment social thinking weaknesses
- Become familiar with current models of instruction with an emphasis on the ILAUGH Model of Social Cognition (http://www.socialthinking.com/), Relationship Development Intervention model (Gustein), and Enhancing Children and Adolescents to Understand and Improve Their Social Cognition model (Levine)
- Integrate the Stern Center's model of social thinking and the specific bridged instruction between distinct levels of social understanding.
Pre-Requisite:
Developing and Running Social Thinking Groups, a 6 credit Continuing Education workshop offered through the Stern Center's professional development curriculum ($165), or the equivalent course work with approval from instructor.
This session is designed to support students across Tiers 2 and 3 and may be applied to all students using a professional learning community model involving all teachers.
