The Research
- Stern Center for Language and Learning research, published in the Early Education and Development Journal (2005), and cited in Toward the Identification of Features of Effective Professional Development for Early Childhood Educators: Literature Review (US DOE, 2010) , demonstrates results for early care and education providers using BUILDING BLOCKS strategies·
- All children made significant gains as would be expected developmentally.
- Target children made significantly greater preliteracy gains than children in the control group.
- Most compelling, a significantly greater number of target children were no longer at risk for reading failure after the intervention. Over the course of 6 months, 35% of targeted children versus only 07% of the control group rose from an at-risk level to an above-at-risk level.
