School Consultation Evaluation

A Partnership Between the Stern Center and University of Vermont College of Medicine Department Pediatric/Adolescent Psychiatry

Comprehensive Multidisciplinary School Consultation Evaluations will be available from January to June 2012. This unique service is a partnership between the Stern Center for Language and Learning and the University of Vermont College of Medicine, Department of Pediatric/Adolescent Psychiatry.

Tailored evaluations for students with complex needs will be delivered by a diverse group of experts in children's language, learning, behavioral, and emotional development. Services may include school observations, consultations with school teams, psychological/psychoeducational/neuropsychological assessments, and psychiatric consultation. Working closely with school teams, our staff will help answer referral questions related to the differential diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders, language and learning disabilities, and social/emotional disorders.

"We feel like the thorough evaluation we got through the Stern Center is a gift that will be meaningful throughout the years of our son's education. Having a multidisciplinary evaluation gives us a more complete picture and helps us understand our child as a whole being...The level of professional capacity at the Stern Center is remarkable and we have recommended it to several parents as the place to go to if you want a truly comprehensive understanding of your child." -- from a parent

Costs for a comprehensive Multidisciplinary School Consultation Evaluation average $2750 plus mileage at 50.5 cents per mile for travel outside Chittenden County. Because each evaluation is tailored to the individual needs of the student, costs may vary accordingly. Every evaluation will include a detailed written report and school/parent consultation.

A limited number of evaluations will be available. Candidates will be selected based on the diversity of needs presented and their likelihood of maximally benefiting from the unique team approach.

The goal of the program is to offer an in-depth analysis of a learner's needs linguistically, academically, socially, and behaviorally. Within this multidisciplinary school consulutation evaluation process, the Stern Center team is able to collaborate closely with school personnel and parents to optimize instructional program planning.

"Working with Julia Molson in conjunction with the Child Psychiatry Fellowship Partnership was comprehensive and helpful in planning an appropriate educational program for my student. I appreciated both the comprehensive report and the condensed child-friendly report that was shared with my student which helped reduce her anxiety and increase her understanding. The team worked with Harwood to keep costs down by utilizing test and reports already completed by Harwood." -- from a special educator

The School Consultation Service Leadership Team:  Julia Molson, Psy.D., and Blanche Podhajski, Ph.D., CCC-SLP. Robert Johnston, M.D., and Alisson Richards, M.D., will be the Pediatric Psychiatry Fellows.  Click here to learn more.
