Developing Reading Efficiency: Automaticity & Fluency
Instruction for Classroom Teachers


Developing Reading Efficiency is designed for all educators who work with dysfluent readers. The course discusses current research on the relationship between rapid naming deficits and fluency problems.

Participants learn strategies and instructional methods to help students improve their reading rate and accuracy and gain a working knowledge of:

• research supporting fluency instruction
• definitions of automaticity and fluency
• interactions between decoding knowledge and reading
efficiency
• how to develop individualized fluency training programs
• use of reading speed drills
• oral reading strategies for building fluency and comprehension
