Stern Center Lecture Series

Charles M. Poser, M.D. Lecture

Bernice Stern and Charles PoserEach year the Stern Center for Language and Learning in collobration with the University of Vermont College of Medicine and support from the Vermont Children's Hospital at Fletcher Allen Health Care presents the Charles M. Poser, M.D. Lecture.  Dr. Charles M. Poser was chairman of the Department of Neurology at the University of Vermont College of Medicine from 1968 to 1981.   During his tenure, Dr. Poser was a champion for language and literacy before these topics became prominent through medical and educational reserach.

Under his leadership, the Center for Disorders of Communication at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont, then directed by Stern Center President Blanche Podhajski, Ph.D., became part of the Department of Neurology.  It was Dr. Poser's foresight that enabled Vermont to form medical and educational partnerships on behalf of individuals who struggle to learn.  The founding of the Stern Center by Dr. Podhajski in 1983 is a direct outcome of his efforts.

The Poser Lecture was established in 2003 to honor Dr. Poser's contributions.  Each year, the Stern Center offers a presentation for physicians, educators, and parents that captures his spirit of cutting-edge, medical-educational contributions to language and literacy.
