Mastering the Alphabetic Principle

(formerly T·I·M·E for Teachers)

Mastering the Alphabetic Principle: How to Map Speech to Print for Reading and Spelling is based on research discoveries that identified phonological awareness, phonics, and fluency as three important elements to learning to read.  Shaped by the feedback of 3,000 teachers, MAP is a self-guided course published by Brookes Publishing Co. that promotes effective teaching of early literacy.  The course includes commentaries from experts in the field, as well as demonstration teaching videos and interactive teaching activities.  The enhanced and expanded version of the respected T·I·M·E for Teachers course originally developed at the Stern Center, this textbook-on-DVD gives K-3 educators important information to ensure young children's reading success.

"We are thrilled that MAP will now be available everywhere for teacher preparation, inservice programs, and individuals," lead author Blanche Podhajski explained.  "We are delighted to be hearing from people across the country who are intending to use it to help deliver best practices in literacy instruction."
